Chiropractic and Pregnancy
Chiropractic and pregnancy? How could a chiropractor adjust a person when they have a baby in their body? Wouldn’t that be dangerous? These are just some of the questions that people ask when they hear that chiropractic and pregnancy is such an amazing combination.
What actually happens when you get pregnant?
When a woman becomes pregnant, there are countless changes that are happening to her body! Not only physically, but hormonally, biomechanically and with her posture too. The body changes in order to prepare to nourish and carry a child to its full term. A woman’s center of gravity shifts forward the larger the baby gets inside the belly. This causes the pelvis to tilt and the muscles in the lower back to become shorter and much more tightened in return. This can cause an unbelievable amount of pain. The hamstrings and gluteal muscles also become stretched and weakened causing the body to be very uncomfortable. The abdomen, lower back, pelvis, and cervical and lumbar regions are the main source of pain as the baby grows in the woman’s body.
How does chiropractic help with pregnancy?
The biggest issue with pain relief while pregnant is that many normal pain relievers aren’t safe for the pregnant women or her baby. That’s where chiropractic care comes in! Chiropractic care focuses on the natural way to make you feel better. It is not only safe, but often recommended for pregnant women. Chiropractic adjustments can be diversified for the mommy and the baby and adjustments are done with special pillows that allow comfort for pregnant women. Chiropractic care and adjustments help move joints that are stiff (such as the joints in front of the pelvis). Soft tissue techniques can also bring relief to areas that are full of tension from carrying a baby.
It is reported that women receiving chiropractic care have easier and faster deliveries because of a healthier system. No one likes to be in pain- it can cause anxiety and stress- which is not good for the mommy or the baby. If you are pregnant and suffering from pain make sure to get in for your adjustment.
