Choosing the right nutrition

When it comes to nutrition, many of us have a hard time determining what “diet” to choose. You see some people doing keto, some counting their macros and then you have people who just watch their portions. So how do you go about choosing the right nutrition?

Since every person is different it can be hard to figure out which path to choose. While we know it isn’t realistic to tell each and every one of you to get a nutritionist, but that is the number one way to make sure you choose the right fit for you. Here at Denison Chiropractic we do have options for our patients to learn about nutrition and are more than willing to help. If you are interested mention it to the doctor at your next visit and we can get you plugged in.

There are plenty of nutritional options that we could list here but for the sake of not writing a thesis paper we will stick to 3 that we have seen success with.

Counting Macros

When someone says they are counting their macros many of us “normal people” start to immediately panic on the thought of doing it ourselves. Ultimately it is not as hard as it sounds. The main thing about keeping track of how many grams of proteins, fats and carbs you are eating is just measuring out your food. Yes it can be hard when you eat out but it also motivates you to eat at home so you can actually know what you are putting in your body.

The easiest way to explain what counting macros consists of is just by explaining that it is keeping track of your macronutrients. Macronutrients are proteins, fats and carbs. Micronutrients are things such as vitamins and minerals. When you keep track of the big picture instead of all the little intricate things it makes it a little simpler. The app MyFitnessPal is a good way to keep track of the food you are eating and will also keep track of your macronutrients.

Ketogenic Diet

The ketogenic diet is a way of eating where you eliminate almost all carbs from your diet. When you are eating “keto” you also are doing a high fat intake as well. Many people see success and many health benefits from eating this way. Ketogenic diets may even have benefits against diabetes, cancer, epilepsy, and Alzheimer’s disease.

When you start eating like this, your body becomes incredibly efficient at burning fat for energy. It also turns fat into ketones in the liver, which can supply energy for the brain. The ketogenic diet is not for everyone. Some people feel extremely drained and have a hard time functioning eating this way. It also is not suggested for those who lift weights or have a physically demanding job.

Eating Organic

Another option, which would be more sustainable in the long run, is to eat everything completely organic and clean. So much food now is processed and has added sugars and chemicals that our bodies are not use to. The biggest problem is when a food has on the label “Organic” it does not always mean it is truly organic. The process that is used to make a lot of our processed foods makes it so it truly can’t be organic. So what does it mean to eat organic?

The best advice I could give you if you want to eat completely organic is to find a local farm. Many places have local farms that the animals along with fruits and vegetables are grown right at the farm! Here at Denison Chiropractic we personally like GentleSoll Farm. It is located in Bells, TX and the link to their website is HERE.

Choosing nutrition?

Choosing the right nutrition could be as easy as having just a consult with a nutrition coach or even just testing something you think would be manageable out. Even if it is just a 30 day trial to see if it is for you, there is no reason to wait! Once again if you want help from us here at Denison Chiropractic we are more than willing to set a time for a nutrition consult.

We also suggest that no matter which path you personally choose, you also add in some good quality supplements and some form of exercise. We can also help you to decide what supplements would benefit you and also what type of exercise would best provide the goals you were seeking.
